As per the Vedic astrology, the formula of Ashta Koot system is accepted universally for marriage match making. However, because of regional differences in North Indian and South Indian traditions, the scores are calculated differently. Birthastro’s Kundali Matching software is based on this calculation only. "Ashta" means "Eight" and "Kuta" means "Aspects".

This part checks the temperaments. The three Ganas are Deva, Maanav, and Rakshasas. When the bride and groom match to same Gana, they get 6 points. They obtain 1 point for Deva and Rakshasa and get zero points for Manav and Rakshasa.

This aspect tells about the love between two which is calculated from the moon's position in the horoscopes of the bride and groom. If the moon position of the groom is 2, 3 4, 5, 6 places from the bride, it considered being a bad match. Positions 7 and 12 represent a good match. If the moon position of the bride from the groom is 12, the match is poor. The positions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 are good.
