Amavasya held in every month and according a month, it has differents names like Bhado Amavasya, Bheemana Amavasya, Somvati Amavasya, Mauni Amavasya, Shani Amavasya etc. Every Amavasya brings a new happiness to the life. It is the end of darkness and the beginning of light. So the people who do fast on this day will get great impact on their life. They get fruitful effects of their fasting. Amavasya is the day, when we celebrate diwali too. We worship the goddess of wealth Laxmi and Lord Ganesha. So Amavasya has its good faces too.

Mauni Amavasya

Mauni Amavasya is celebrated on the 15th day of Magha month. This day Sun and Moon conjoins. This day is celebrated in high scale at prayag. People come prayag and take bath in holy river Ganga. They offer flowers and remember forefathers. All shradha rituales perform in this day, is so auspicious. It is a day when forefathers are remembered. Mauni word origin from the word ‘Muni’ which means a person who practices to be silent. Therefore, on Mauni Amavasya, people keep fast and Maun vrat too. They keep silent and do not said a single word. This fast provides peace and the blessings of forefathers. Mauni Amavasya is a spiritual day. On this day, Lord vishnu is worshiped by devotees. So Mauni Amavasya is a basically day of Tarpan and remembrance.

Somvati Amavasya

Somvati Amavasya is so spiritual day for married women. It is a thinking that Somvati Amavasya Vrat give a long and healthy life to husbands. So on this day, every women fast for their husbands’ good life. There is tradition of Vat Savitri Puja on Somvati Amavasya. Women do fast and become with 16 shringaar. They gather near a pipal tree and knot it with Raksha sutra. They read the vrat katha of Savitri and Satyawan. They worship Yamaraj and want blessings for their husbands.

Aati Amavasya

It is celebrated mostly in south india. There is a ritual of drinking decoction of bark tree. Bark tree has so much importance in south india. They think that it is a tree of spirits. In south india, they celebrated aati amavasya to remember forefathers and pitra daan too. There is a ritual of taking bath in monsoon. It is thinking that raindrops can remove the sin from the body. It has a lots of importance in south india. It is celebrated in ashada month.

Bhado Amavasya

This amavasya is celebrated in bhadrapada month. It has a name which is bhadi mawas because it is held in the month of bhadrapada. Bhado amavasya is celebrated for the sati Narayani Bai. She became sati after the death of her husband. So a big fair is held in rajasthan in the remembrance of sati Narayani Bai. People fast on this day and preach devi Narayani. This fast proves fruitful who does it purely. So this amavasya is also important for all married women who want their husbands for seven lives.

Bheemana Amavasya

Bheemana Amavasya vrat is celebrated in South India. They worship lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on this day. Women keep fast and worship lord Shiva for their husbands’ happy and successful life. Unmarried women keep fast to get a husband like lord Shiva. There is legend behind this amavasya that on this day lord Shiva accept Devi parvati as his wife. So this amavasya gives lots of benefits to fasters.

Vidhi of Amavasya Vrat

Every Amavasya is important and has a legend behind it. So on every amavasya, you must read vrat katha. You should follow falahaar on this day. You must follow rules for special amavasyas. Be pure and try to take bath in holy rivers. Offering sweets and flowers to ancestors should be done on amavasya. You must concentrate and remember Devas, according to amavasyas.
